Walk in LePARC: An artist talk together with Erin Brubacher and Janet Morton

November 11 | 17:00

LePARC and Textiles & Materiality clusters are hosting an artist talk between interdisciplinary performing artist Erin Brubacher and visual artist Janet Morton, who are in Montreal to share a presentation of the performance piece There Is So Much More to Say at CINARS Biennale.
Bringing together Brubacher’s experience in collaborative performance-making and Morton’s work with reclaimed materials and domestic techniques, the conversation will offer an opportunity to reflect on how artistic processes generate critical unexpected connections between disciplines.

The talk will take place at LePARC Performance Lab EV 10.875 November 11 at 5pm The performance of There Is So Much More To Say will take place at Concordia’s School of Performance MB 7.265 November 13 at 4pm.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Janet Morton has been exhibiting across Canada and internationally since 1992. She has received numerous awards and accolades for her work that playfully and critically examines our relationship to the natural world and everyday objects. Morton uses knitting and sewing symbolically in her work as blatant low-tech metaphors. With equal measures of empathy and absurdity, Morton combines these stereotypically domestic techniques with reclaimed materials, and explores issues of consumption, value and time. Morton currently lives in Guelph and is represented by Paul Petro Contemporary Art, Toronto.

Erin Brubacher is a multidisciplinary artist. As a director, she works with writers, performers, musicians, choreographers, visual artists, and other professional and non professional makers, to collaboratively create new works.

Directing projects, including the award winning premiere productions of Kiinalik: These Sharp Tools, Concord Floral, and Love You Wrong Time, have taken her across Canada and the world to festivals and other contexts including: The National Arts Centre (Ottawa), The Aga Khan Museum (Toronto), Canadian Stage (Toronto), The PuSh International Performance Festival (Vancouver), The Cultch (Vancouver), Espace Libre (Montreal), The Kitchen (NYC), Luminato (Toronto), The Edinburgh International Festival (Scotland), Theater der Welt (Germany), and Festival Internacional Cervantino (Mexico).

EB has been the recipient of the Toronto Theatre Critics’ Award for Best Director, multiple Dora Mavor Moore Awards, and was a finalist for the Toronto Arts Foundation, Arts for Youth Award. She has a long history of leading performance projects that amplify younger voices. EB co-wrote, performed and produced 7th Cousins with Christine Brubaker, presented by Nightwood Theatre (Toronto) and Green Light Arts (Waterloo ON), and subsequently published 7th Cousins: An Automythography with Book*hug Press. She is also the author of the poetry collection, In the small hours (Gaspereau Press) and the novel, These Songs I Know By Heart (Book*hug).
