Co-Learning Score for Artistic Research

Abstract

This collective publication is the culmination of a Score Practice initiated by LePARC co-director Lília Mestre and involving six practitioners. Every other Friday afternoon between September 2004 and April 2025, Kristian North, Allison Peacock, Christian Brun Del Re, Erin Hill, VK Preston, and Lília Mestre presented their practice and its evolutions, engaging in a sustained generative dialogue that interwove theory and practice.

Following a consistent protocole designed “to deepen the entanglements between form, concept and collective practice,” the group was tasked with sharing work and taking notes at every round of the Score Practice. At the end of each session, participants randomly selected another participant to pose a guiding question about their work; this question was then sent a few days later as a correspondence, fostering criticality, generosity, and attention through diverse materials (images, sounds, recordings, video, text, etc.).
