SUMMARY:Milieux x MTL Connect 2026
DESCRIPTION:Milieux is excited to partner with Printemps numérique for the 8th edition of MTL connect. This annual international event brings together entrepreneurs\, researchers\, industry professionals and artists to explore the evolving challenges and issues of the digital revolution. \nOn October 14th\, Milieux will host a delegation of international curators and industry professionals for a tour of the Institute followed by a 5 à 7 in the atrium on the 11th floor. \nThis event is a fantastic opportunity for members to showcase their research and creative work with professionals and peers in an informal setting. It’s also an amazing chance to connect with other members\, so even if you can’t present a project\, we invite you to join us to celebrate the research-creation at the institute. \n  \n \n  \nHere are some pictures from last year event: \n \n \n \nCredits: Ana Isabel Duque \n  \nABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL DELEGATION: \nJérémy Oury is a French digital artist and curator based between France and Mexico. His work explores human relationships with digital environments through light\, sound\, and immersive mediums. His work has been presented at festivals around the world. He is also co-organizer and curator of the Sous dôme festival in Paris and is currently developing DomoArte\, a project dedicated to fulldome creation in Latin America. \n  \n  \n  \nJean-Marie Dallet is an artist with the SLIDERS_lab collective\, an exhibition curator\, and a Full Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Sorbonne University (Paris). He is co-director of the Master’s in Innovation Management (Arts & Creative Industries) and co-lead of the Arts\, Sciences\, Societies research axis at the ACTE Institute. His expertise spans digital arts\, media arts\, experimental cinema\, design\, and aesthetics. \n  \n  \n  \n  \nGéraldine Bueken is a producer\, screenwriter\, and phygital strategist working at the intresection of heritage\, media\, immersive experiences\, and AI. As the founder and director of XR4Heritage\, she designs and produces impact-driven projects across Europe\, Africa\, and Quebec that explore new ways to preserve\, transmit and reimagine cultural memory\, including the [IN]VISIBLE Festival\, an international augmented art festival dedicated to history’s overlooked figures. A specialist in cultural mediation\, lifelong learning\, she supports various cultural institutions in their digital transformation strategies\, at the intersection of social and technological innovation. She specialized in designing memorial AI avatars and writing AI-driven historical fiction\, and she collaborates as a curator and speaker to numerous events\, including the European immersive forum UNITED XR EU. \nGeorges-Emmanuel Arnaud is a sculptor\, photographer\, and digital specialist. Drawing on a background in art history\, analog\, and scientific photography\, he utilizes digital twins to preserve tangible and intangible heritage\, crafting immersive sculptures and XR works that blend visual and sound experiences. \n  \n  \n  \n \nDavid Gauthier is an Assistant Professor of Computational Media and Arts in the Department of Media and Culture Studies at Utrecht University. He studied Mathematics at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and Media Arts and Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)\, and holds a PhD in Cultural Analysis from the University of Amsterdam. His work fosters original ways of studying objects and phenomena by forging transdisciplinary connections between cultural and scientific traditions of inquiry. \nAlongside his scholarship\, Gauthier is a practicing media artist. This constant criss-crossing between academic research and experimental artistic practice defines his approach to creative inquiry. Through the production of artworks commissioned and supported by institutions across Europe and North America\, his engagement with computation bridges critical cultural production and active participation in international artistic networks. \n \nRosa Menkman is a Dutch artist and researcher specializing in glitch art and resolution theory. Her practice centers on the noise and artifacts produced by analog and digital media\, investigating how technical standards shape images and dictate their creative possibilities. \nBeyond her studio and research work\, Menkman is an active curator. She curated the touring exhibition im/possible images\, co-organized the pioneering GLI.TC/H festivals\, and collaborated with Sonic Acts from 2007 to 2017. \n  \n \nAlain Gallez is the founder of Stereopsia\, an international event dedicated to immersive technologies and content. He holds a Master’s degree in Psychology from Brussels and quickly focused toward supporting technological innovation at both local and international levels\, notably within an incubator network backed by the European Commission. He subsequently founded his own company to organize international conferences across various technology and scientific sectors. In 2009\, in partnership with a Belgian university\, he established Stereopsia which is now known as UNITEDXR Europe. Building on a project supported by the European Commission\, he launched XR4Europe in May 2021 (the European network of XR professionals) in collaboration with 10 European XR clusters. For Gallez\, technology should serve as a powerful catalyst for human and societal development. \n  \n  \n🗓 October 14\, 2025 \n⏱️ 5 – 7 PM \n📍Milieux Institute\, EV Building 11th floor

SUMMARY:Alignment: From the Governance of Models to Geopolitics
DESCRIPTION:Join Machine Agencies for a presentation featuring Dr. Alexander Campolo. This presentation addresses how the logic of alignment moves ambiguously between the technologies being used to train GenAI models to governance and geopolitics. Rather than asking abstractly how we might govern models by “aligning” them to\, for instance\, democratic values\, we investigate why the rationality of alignment itself has so quickly become hegemonic among AI developers and certain philosophical communities. \n  \nABOUT THE SPEAKER: \nAlexander Campolo is assistant professor (Research) at the Leverhulme Centre for Algorithmic Life and the School of Modern Languages & Cultures at Durham University. His research cuts across histories of machine learning\, statistics\, and computing to theorise societies and cultures being transformed by AI. \n  \n  \n  \n  \nABOUT MACHINE AGENCIES: \nMachine Agencies is part of the Speculative Life Cluster at Milieux Institute. It is an experiment between human and machine intelligences. Our research group encourages cooperation and play\, resisting the antagonism of more instrumental approaches of AI. We engage with posthumanism\, experience design\, and public policy to find new formats\, methods\, and commons to sustain just\, fair\, and better worlds. \n  \n  \n  \n📅  October 22\, 2026 \n⏱️ 12-1:30 PM \n📍Speculative Life EV 10.635 / Zoom \n
