UKAI Projects Residency: Call for Artists

Deadline to Apply: February 14, 2025

UKAI Projects is coming to Milieux early April for a residency and they are looking for 3 Montreal-based artists to join their project Shipwreck! The project explores how we navigate ecological, cultural, and technological devastation.

How do we create conditions for cultural life using what has been left behind? What can be repurposed, shared, or adapted?

From April 5 to April 9, 2025, artists will contribute 15-20 hours crafting site-specific works within a space filled with “ruins” and artifacts. This is not about repair but about occupation: a practice of finding continuity in what’s already present. How do we create conditions for cultural life using what has been left behind? What can be repurposed, shared, or adapted? Your task is to render the space livable in unexpected ways, assembling fragments into new formations of meaning.

What You’ll Get:

  • $500 honorarium (includes basic materials; larger needs can be discussed)
  • Support from Milieux Institute and Applied AI Institute
  • A platform to showcase your work alongside UKAI Projects’ evolving installation.

Who can apply?

Artists from any discipline who are comfortable working with uncertainty, challenging meaning, and responding to their surroundings. No proposals are needed—your work will be shaped in relation to the space and the materials at hand.

How to Apply:

Send your portfolio to home@ukaiprojects.com by February 14, 2025. Notifications will be sent by February 21, 2025.

This project is supported by Milieux Institute for Arts, Culture and Technology and the Applied AI Institute.
