Alice Jarry’s Research Sabbatical: Bart Simon Steps In as Hexagram Co-Director for a Year

Concordia Professor and Director of the Milieux Institute, Bart Simon, steps in during the sabbatical leave of Hexagram’s Co-Director, Alice Jarry.

International Collaborations on the Horizon

Associate Professor at Concordia and Co-Director of the Hexagram Network, Alice Jarry holds prestigious roles, including leadership positions at the Milieux Institute Speculative Life Biolab and the Critical Practices in Materials and Materiality Research Chair.

In 2024, she will take a one-year sabbatical to consolidate several ongoing research projects. Dr. Jarry will visit the Matters of Activity Cluster of Excellence at Humboldt University in Berlin and collaborate with the University of Nîmes and the École Supérieure de la Photographie d’Arles on projects related to biomaterials.

She will also complete research on Origami Soft Robots with Dr. Akbarzadeh Shafaroudi of McGill.

An Interim Focused on Consolidation

Bart Simon will co-direct the network alongside Sofian Audry (UQAM) for the coming year. This year will be marked by the consolidation of fruitful collaborations and the integration of the new generation of professors and students.

“Hexagram continues to be a critical network for forging a shared community of practice around research-creation in Québec. This next year should be about the consolidation of productive collaborations and the on-boarding of the next generation of faculty and students.”

— Bart Simon

The focus will be on supporting research-creation initiatives while integrating new voices and perspectives. This strategic network, already influential in the arts and technology fields, is preparing to strengthen its impact as a hub of ideas and innovation.
