UKAI Projects Residency at Milieux Presents “Shipwreck”: An Evolving Exploration of Resilience in a Changed World

The Milieux Institute for Arts, Culture and Technology, is pleased to announce that UKAI Projects will be in residence from April 1st to April 12th. Presented in partnership with the Applied AI Institute, UKAI Projects will further develop their thought-provoking “Shipwreck” project, an immersive and interactive experience exploring how we navigate ecological, cultural and technological devastation.

If you found yourself shipwrecked and washed ashore, what three things would you most wish to have with you? How would you make a new home where you beached?

During the residency, three Montreal-based artists: Meghan Moe Beitiks, Gabriel Junqueira Maciel Teixeira, and Eija Loponen-Stephenson will attempt to make a home among ruins of potential futures brought by three artists from UKAI Projects. The project encourages participants to repurpose, share, and adapt, ultimately fostering a sense of shared responsibility in shaping narratives about our rapidly changing world.

Shipwreck also invites visitors to actively participate in this collective artistic process during a 2-day public exhibition on April 11 and 12 at the Milieux Institute. Audience contributions will become part of the evolving installation, blurring the line between creator and audience and emphasizing the shared experience of navigating a world marked by various interconnected crises.

Shipwreck is an opportunity to occupy territories of devastation and to make a home in a strange and changed world. Cultural, social, economic, and environmental crises are terrains of uncertain governance, and this project explores how these terrains might be inhabited and how meaning might be sought and made. Shipwreck is an exploration of art as something to be lived in and among.

Shipwreck will be open to the public during the following hours:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      April 11,2025: 5-7 p.m.                                                                                                                      (Please make sure to RSVP to attend Friday’s event)                                                                                                                                                                                                                 April 12, 2025: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
