This workshop will make the case for how hybrid games and alt controllers can serve as an entry-point for moving beyond the status quo of standard gaming interfaces (keyboard, mouse, controller, touchpad) and into new ways of thinking about video games and who plays them. Starting from examples of extant work, we will discuss why it matters to move beyond these usual forms of interaction. From there, we will do some rapid prototyping with simple, easy-to-learn boards such as the Makey-Makey or BBC micro:bit and conductive materials.
